Illustrated: From the new spring collection 'Morning at Kings Mill' by Ben Baldry.
'Brought up in Africa as a young boy, Ben enjoyed drawing and painting and often worked alongside his father a well-established fine art painter'.
Now living in Nottingham, as a self-taught artist with no formal training, Ben has developed his own unique style. Strongly influenced by the French Impressionists and the mood landscape painters, in particular Isaac Levitan. Against the elements and ever changing light, Ben has had to learn to paint quickly with great economy and directness. His accompanying sentimental and well-composed subject matter with a somewhat muted palette, is clearly a trademark of Isaac Levitan a classical landscape painter whose work was a profound response to the lyrical charm of the Russian countryside.
In his current body of work, Ben is keen to explore the many landscape opportunities which Nottingham, with its wealth of history, has to offer.
